The Wizards' 3rd party d20 poll

I took the poll that was listed on the news page. I told them that the reason I buy non-WOTC d20 products was because they cover genres and subjects that Wizards' products do not cover, and because I buy them for additional material to use in my campaign.

Some will probably ascribe bad motives to Wizards for this poll but I myself think they're just trying to gauge if the d20 license is actually doing what it's supposed to do.

What do the rest of you (especially publishers) think?

I think the Poll is aimed at the consumers who are not necessarily publishers. They want to see if this whole d20/OGL is working out for them and their gametimes.

If they want they should put out a Poll for d20 publishers regarding the two licenses, OGC, and their SRD.

I thought that last question was a bit silly; in order to answer honestly I had to check all the boxes.

I suspect they're curious as to how much work the D&D logo is doing compared to the d20 logo.

Hmmm, I just went back to the survey (which I took this morning) and it wouldnt load for me. I wonder if they've blocked my IP to keep me from responding again, if there are problems, or if they've just finished the survey.

Anyway, without remembering EXACTLY what the questions were I can say that while the Dungeons and Dragons logo is a powerful trademark (Id love to be able to slap it on my products) its certainly and by no means necessary for ME personally to buy a d20 product. I am a publisher though and one that understands the nature of d20 and what it means. If I were just a consumer, particularly one new to roleplaying, I'd PROBABLY have less reservations about buying something if it had the DnD logo on it than if it didnt.

Truthfully, these days I buy a product more for the d20 system than for Dungeons and Dragons. Of the D20 products I've purchased in the last few months, only the Dragonstar books and two books related to Rokugan have had anything to do with fantasy. Spycraft, Sidewinder and Forbidden Kingdoms I bought because I like the genres and they give me diversity in the types of settings I can run but still use this system which I like.
