So let me get this straight. The players will have access to The Vallorean forces, some 280,000 troops that are involved in the southern offensive, have been cut off and surrounded! AND There are some 220,000 Vallorean Legionnaries in the area, 140,000 Urrgan, and 60,000 Harthak. The Vallorean forces have great fortresses that protect each of the cities, but the forces involved are not currently unified, as they are scattered in bases of some 25,000 troops each, over a fairly broad area. It would take a week or more for the Vallorean forces to unify under one command. Against Now, from the south, from out of the mountains, some 460,000 of these terrible monstrous creatures are marching forth, led by an Infernal Ghandar, named Gethenon, Lord of The Blood Tower of Char'genneroth. Gethenon has been joined by: 460,000 Ghandar soldiers; 160,000 beatsmen; 80,000 elite human troops; 650 Fire Giants; 24 Necromancers that fly upon demonic wyverns; 30 Gargantuan Tyrannosaurus Rex's lead the assault; 6000 heavy cavalry mounted on plate-armoured Triceratops; From the North Mallenar has ordered Gethenon to secure the southern flank, and march to a rallying point deep behind the Vallorean lines, some hundred miles behind the Vallorean staging area where they have their supply depots and training camps. Meanwhile, to the north, Mallenar, the ancient vampire king who has ruled the kingdom of Galleran for over a thousand years, leads an awesome horde of the following: 480,000 beastmen; 320,000 humans; 120,000 Hobgoblins; 80,000 black-skinned half-elemental/dwarves that breath molten steel 46,000 Minotaurs; 28,000 Trolls, armoured in black full plate; 25,000 fortified skeleton warriors armed in black and jade plate armour, each wearing an orb of ruby fire that glows and shimmers; a regiment of some 10,000 vampires that ride swift demonic horses, and carry swords of hellfire, with a screaming wind of madness going before them! a special regiment of 600 Winterwights, armoured in balck and gold Full Plate. Mallenar has swept into the attack guarded and supported by three Pyroclastic Dragons, who burn and slaughter everything in their path! What should the players do? Defensive position: 1) Form lines of communication. get the splintered forces together. 2) issue the order for the people to fall back fro the outskirt cities, bring all livesstock and food and supplies that they can and torch the rest. The invading armies will need to bring their own supplies and not take it from yourself. 3) combine the troops with the main body of troops. 4) have clerics ready a whole bunch of holy water for hot holy water cauldrons, just because the undead are the most affected the hot water will still hurt the others. 5) make a lot of pits about 500 yards away from the city walls, have people camouflage them or illusion that they look normal. fill them up with spikes or hungry wild beasts or giant ants or something. this is all the way around the city. no matter how they are arriving to the city they will need to cross through the "mine field" 6) Ballista and catapults for each wall. 7) induct all serfs into the army. try to train them in cross bows. Use them to augment the wall for firing upon the enemy. Just because they can't aim properly doesn't mean the bolts don't hit something in a charge of the enemy. 8) Have a lot of clerics prepare healing and heroes feasts. 9) have invisible scouts to report back enemy locations. 10) incite problems within the enemy ranks. Offensive: They are outnumbered, most likely a defensive battle might be their only option. OR They try to do the impossible. Sneak into the Northern army, get something that is without a doubt the property of the ancient vampire king's, then go to the south and assassinate the leader of the south and plant that as evidence. Then go into defensive fighting and HOPE the south is ticked enough to attack the northern forces and while they are engaged we wait for reinforcements then start owning whoever is left behind.
