Falcron climbed out of the sewer, with Dane held tight under his arm. He handed the wolf to Talistra who took him gladly. Boet climbed out after the Paladin and grinned at the druid and her miniaturized companion. “Don’t worry the spell will slowly wear off.” Dane snorted with disgust. Iddagor and Braddagor started heading down into the sewers. Falcron held out a hand to stop them. “Where are you two going?” “To harvest some of their tails you ninny.” “What?” “The Church offers a bounty of three gold for every bloody rat tail you give ‘em.” “Yea! Three gold man!” Iddagor chimed in with his brother. The two dwarves whipped out their knives and set to work detailing the killed ratmen. Falcron wrinkled his nose with disgust and turned away. Kaira had finished bandaging Talistra’s leg. After checking the wrapping she stood next to Falcron and laid her hand on his shoulder. He felt his muscles tense up. He never felt like this around her before, he had always treated her as a powerful ally and a close friend. Could there be more? Could a winged elf love a man like him? “Thank you Mister…” Talistra began “Please, My name is Falcron, I am a Paladin of Lothian. This is Kaira Sundance, a devout follower of Mirresh, the queen of laughter. This is Boet, a city watchman.” “Ahem, I retired today Falcron, so I guess I am a former Watchman.” “Former Watchman Boet. And cutting off tales are the Facebreaker brothers Bradagor and Iddagor.” “My name is Talistra Mona, I am a druid from Moonsilver Forest, my friend here is Dane.” She began digging through her bag. “This bag belonged to my grandmother; she told me it was given to her as a dowry from a wizard of the Inverted Pyramid who loved her. It was blessed to hold more than a bag this sized would normally carry. I have something for your bravery Sir Knight.” Falcron held up his hand in protest. “No gift is required Talistra” She handed him a bottle of glowing milky water. “It is called Liquid Light, it is what happens when a pocket of pure good seeps up through the earth. It shines as bright as any light, and it is perfectly suited to you. Think of it as a token, a torch to lead you when it is dark and you are lost.” She bent down to Boet and kissed him softly on the cheek and his face turned a deep scarlet. “That is for saving Dane.” Boet leaned over and whispered to the Paladin. “Hey Falcron, my prize was better than your prize.” Falcron ignored the comment as the two dwarf brothers came out from the sewers with several thick rat tails held tight in their hands. “Aye we got a good haul.” Iddagor said with a smile. “What about that grill.” Bradagor frowned then reached in his pocket. Out came a bottle filled with glue. “Do you plan on sticking it on there with horse hoof glue?” Boet asked skeptically. “This ain’t any old glue boy.” Bradagor commented as he slathered it on. “This is glue that won’t budge, it won’t be going anywhere.” “Plus it makes you see funny colors when you breathe the fumes too much.” Iddagor smiled. “Aye, we do need to use it in a ventilated area, the fumes are mighty potent.” Falcron scanned Delver’s Square, his eyes moved across all the familiar signs. Myraeth’s Oddities, Ebbert’s Outfitters, Bull and Bear Armory, Rastor’s Weapons, and finally he came to stop on the Ghostly Minstrel. The tavern had been his home four years ago when he and his friends had dug through the dungeons trying to find treasure. He sighed, he missed those days. His stomach growled loudly at him. “Let’s get something to eat.” He said making his way toward The Ghostly Minstrel. He invited Dane and Talistra to come with him as they enjoyed their first night together in four years. She was glad to know that finally someone had warmed up to her to be her friend, even though they had to kill some things to get that way.
