At least a Fighter, Cleric, Rogue and Wizard, with two other classes. I'd prefer a Paladin and a Bard. If I had my way, the cast would look like this.  Male Human Paladin - Typical knight in shining armor. Something which fantasy movies have been sorely lacking in. And personally, I'd love to see a Paladin as the lead character.  Male Half-Orc Fighter - A disciplined and consumate warrior, not some savage barbarian. Think something along the lines of a Roman Centurion. A civilized warrior, except he's got grotesque features. Also has a burning hatred of Orcs.  Female Human Cleric - Wearing heavy armor and armed with a mace and crossbow. No robes and no chainmail bikini.  Female Elf Rogue - I almost put down "Female Elf Fighter (Archer), but then I realized that that'd just be a female Legolas. Point is, I want to see an elf that plays up the chaotic nature of elves, not a vulcan under a different name.  Male Elf Bard - Not fond of half-elves, myself, so I'd prefer a full elf.  Male Dwarf Wizard - Want to have an original Dwarf? Best way to do that is to make him a Wizard. And not as comic relief, so no bumbling wizard, here.  I'd also like to see some of the class special abilities played up. Like the Paladins' Detect Evil. I'd like to see what it is the Paladin sees when he uses the power.  2) Use a pre-existing world. Don't make one up. The bright side of that will be that they'll then be able to use that worlds' name for the movie title, and not Dungeons & Dragons, a name which has undoubtedly left a bad taste in the mouths of people after the last movie. I'd personally prefer Forgotten Realms, but that's just me.  3) I agree with a previous poster who said "No world saving". Keep it small. If the movie's any good and there's demand for a sequel, THEN you can up the stakes. But if you save the world in the first movie, where do you go from there? And if you want to play up the "dungeon" aspect of the world, then maybe have it involve a rescue mission in a dungeon (Unlike the D&D movie, which had the most pointless dungeon scene. Unless I missed something, of course. Like I said, before, I can't bear to watch it for more than 5 minutes at a time), so long as the person being rescued isn't a king, queen, prince, or princess. Assuming Forgotten Realms as the setting, how about setting it in the Dalelands? Have the Drow as the bad guys. Using the "Magnificent Seven" formula, the PC's have to protect one of the smaller and weaker Dales from Drow raids out of Cormanthyr, perhaps having to descend into the Underdark to save captured prisoners from the Dale who've been sold into slavery.  4) NO cameos! Unless the movie is centered around a character from a published world, then no cameos. I don't want to see Drizzt running around in the background. And I ESPECIALLY don't want to see Elminster. Nevermind that he's just a Gandalf clone, and would be recognized as such by movie-goers.  5) As another poster pointed out, NO CAMP!!! I absolutely LOATHE camp, which is why I could never stand to watch Hercules or Xena. It's possible to be funny WITHOUT being campy.  That's all I got for now. At the end of the day, though, so long as the movie is a quality movie all around, with good characters, a good plot, good acting, direction, etc, I really don't care about the specifics.</blockquote>
