Thinking about playing an Alienist

But the summon monster list sucks. please tell me there is an updated version of it that includes monsters from sources other than MM1 alone.
It's down right offensive.
Seriously what good is having the pseudonatural template added on if there are no creatures you can summon that make good use of that true strike ability.
I am open to suggestions.

3.5e Alienist sucks.

You're basically a summoner who has cut off the good half of his summon list.

Bleah.

Except they aren't fiendish -- they're crappy...whatever that template is. I can't remember the name off the top of my head.

If you want to be a summoner, be a druid. Or at least that's what I've always been told. Some Planar Shepard cheesiness or something.

Or be a Malconvoker. Worth the loss of a caster level.

The sad sad part about the Alienist is that it takes away most of the good summons (Outsiders for SLAs, Elementals for melee power).

I've had an alienist in my 3 yr long Eberron campaign (from 3rd to 15th lvl) and I house-ruled away the above. It made the PrC much more viable without causing any problems whatsoever.

Ironically, all the successful alienists I ever ran did not depend on summoning to handle most situations. I think the others may be on to something here.

They work fine without Planar Shepard. The cheesiness of Planar Shepard essentially involves using oddly worded rules about planes that intersect with Eberron to get a permanent persistent time stop for yourself and your allies.
