A shadowbox is like a picture frame, used for the display of things other than pictures (medals and medalions, stamps, butterflies, figurines...).

In this context it refers to linear game-play, to a conclusion, rather than non linear (sandbox) and open-ended game-play.

I would like to see WOTC being a bit more open with content, as, even though I do not do DDI what they publish shows what book-stuff will be coming my way.

I just hope they don't use this excuse to make dungeon articles shorter or with less content. That seems to be what they did with Dragon.

I called it! Ever since they announced this new vision of Dungeon we have had much less content in Dungeon. Everything I see in all parts of DnD is that they are giving us less. Now, I am all for greater quality in their content but that should not be an excuse to give reduce the amount of content to a trickle.

I remember when 4e came out they had articles on building an adventure from scratch. There was an awesome article about how the guy took an old dungeon and put a huge rift going through the middle and making it into a brand new dungeon scene. Stuff like that is awesome (Yes, I'm American, I can use "awesome" for describing everything). Where has this kind of love gone?
