What are the Highland Clearances?
The term is generally used to describe the depopulation of the Highlands of Scotland between, roughly, 1785 and the late 1850s, by landowners evicting small farmers from their property and replacing them with huge sheep farms.

I played in a campaign based loosely on Solomon Kane (REH) in which my character was a Kane-esque character named Tomas Albann the son of a pregnant scots woman who was forced south by the clearances and ended up marrying an abusive dutchmen whom Tomas killed when he was 15.

Anyway Tomas eventually made it back to Albann (Scotland) and helped to 'free' his people from Sassenach (English) rule by restoring the Sidhe courts (Tomas' father turned out to have been the Green-man himself)
