A lot of losers (or at least not very big winners) this summer.

Collateral's got a ways to go if it wants to be a hit, likewise The Manchurian Candidate. I, Robot seems to be staggering towards profitability, but not with the sort of gusto one expects from Will Smith. Harold and Kumar looks to be struggling as well, and Catwoman's still looking at a $100-million-dollar loss. As is King Arthur, and the less said about Thunderbirds the better, I expect.

The Bourne Supremacy is doing great, and Spiderman 2 of course, but other than those the big success story this summer is Farenheit 9/11. Who'd'a thunk?

Don't forget Harry Potter; it's done alright for itself.

Oddly enough, the reviews for a lot of these movies are still pretty good. Roger Ebert apparently had one of the best weeks of his life last Friday.

For whatever that's worth.

I was just looking at the listing and a surprise to me was Kill Bill Vol 2: $66,199,496 - $30 to make / $30 to market - 17 weeks on the chart. All profit from here but took forever to get there!

Don't forget Dodgeball, a major hit this summer: $111,940,168 $20 to make / $30 to market!

Yep, been out two weeks and made less than 10% of it's costs. It's already in the smallest corner theatre of our local 17-screen complex.

Too bad. My daughter and I went to see it yesterday and it's not bad at all for a kids movie. Pretty entertaining. We enjoyed it at least. So did the other family who was in the theatre, so that showing had a 100% approval rate.

I enjoyed Collateral. I had some problems with the plot, but the set pieces are engaging. Kill Bill 2 will make a killing (duh) in DVD sales. Not a super-hit, but I'm sure Miramax is happy with the results.
