Or it could be that audiences realized that X-3 has no plot and word of mouth helped drop it.
This is fairly close to the expected drop after a monster first week. After all, it's not like Break Up blew it away. They edged out X3 by 4 mil.

Edit: Of course, other people beat me to this comment. Serves me right for posting before I read the whole thread.:) But seriously, X3 is not bad at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if X3 takes the top spot back this weekend. The only wrench in that might be how "Cars" plays out for the older crowd.

I'm so torn on this. I like Pixar stuff. Loved Incredibles. Monsters Inc. But Cars just leaves me completely cold. I just looks completely like a kids movie. I doubt I'll bother to see it. but might see X3 again.

Ebert and Roper really liked it, and they are often down on kids-only movies. In fact they said that adults who know various types of classic cars will get more out of it than kids.

Bwuh? Cars will kick X3's ass this weekend. Cars will open to at least $80 million, sez I.

I don't know if it will be that much but got to agree, I think the weekend end total will look like:
1. Cars - 75 mill
2. Omen - 25 mill
3. X-Men - 20 mill
4. Break-up 15 mill
5. The Da Vinci Code - 10 mill

38 mill for X3 is still very, very good. Most likely reason for the drop off is simply more fans seeing it opening weekend rather than waiting.

double true! $120M was not just a record breaker, but a big record breaker. Such a drop after the opening weekend is pretty standard for a big opening weekend. It's STILL breaking predictions for performance. Sorry folks, but it's not a case of "the word's out"

As for "The Break Up", romantic comedies almost always do well, especially considering how much they cost to make. Hollywood should wise up and make more of them. The fear, romantic comedies that don't do well really, really bomb. Lohan's "Just My Luck" is a good example. They won't be getting their money back out of that turkey.

According to Jim Hill Media, stock analysts are expecting around 85 million in order to be considered a sucess for Pixar.

If it gets less then that, Pixar's corporate culture will proably be screwed.
