Hand of Evil

Hero
Epic
Pirates still number 1, nothing else really close, Clerks could not even break the top 5 and My Super Ex-Girlfriend could be showing us that it is about the end of Superhero's at the boxoffice. Superman was 8th and should be out of the top 10 this week with the release of Vice, Ant Bully and Tucker Must Die. See www.boxofficemojo.com for details.

Estimated ticket sales for July 21-23

1. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” $35 million
2. “Monster House,” $23 million
3. “Lady in the Water,” $18.2 million
4. “You, Me and Dupree,” $12.8 million
5. “Little Man,” $11 million
6. “Clerks II,” $9.6 million
7. “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” $8.7 million
8. “Superman Returns,” $7.46 million
9. “The Devil Wears Prada,” $7.43 million
10. “Cars,” $4.9 million

Time to keep track of the movies I see this year but think I will do it a different way...anything I go to that I feel is a waste of time is a 5 or below, 6 not a complete waste, 7 a good two+ hours spent, an 8 a good two hours I will tell my friends about, 9 something I will consider seeing again, 10 will see again.

Or it could possibly be a bad movie with an utterly unfunny trailer.

Looking forward to Vice despite the offstage stuff.

Exactly. The failure (if you want to call it that) of My Super ExGirlfriend and the fairly fast slipping of Superman Returns don't have to be blamed on the failure of the superhero genre to remain viable. I think a much more obvious and likely scenario is just that My Super ExGirlfriend didn't really look that appealing, and Superman Returns was a fairly disappointing movie.

Well see, Hand, if you're still saying that next year when Spiderman 3 is in theatres.

It looks like next week Pirates will finally fall out of first place unless none of the new movies can pull at least $25 Mil. Superman will not necesarily fall out of the top ten (it could be number 10) as there are 4 movies in the 7-10 Million range and it will depend on which ones drop the most.

Hmm. Its looking like Superman will not break 200M in US sales. This has to be seen as a failure by the studio. Oh they will make money when you add in foreign boxoffice, which still isn't that much from what I read, and DVD sales, but the next Spiderman franchise this isn't. Hopefully that means a movie with more comic action than domestic drama next time.

I'm hopeful/ betting Little Man and Super Ex have severe drop offs this week. Lady opened where I expected it to and will drop off badly this next weekend. Cars just keeps chugging away but I think with another kids film opening it's leaving the top 10 this week. Superman Returns may drop out or it may just eek it's way down the latter part of the top 10 slowly. Maybe the announcement of a sequel will get those people who haven't seen it yet out to see it.

That's because Marvel > DC. :D

Edit: All kidding aside, the two Spider-man movies have been about the acme of superhero films, so most any superhero movie is going to be measured by that standard for me.
