This Weekend at the Boxoffice: 2007_June_04

I think it's been a good season for movies, just not the blockbuster ones.

I was disappointed by Spiderman 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3.

I loved Waitress and Once, and liked Namesake and Knocked Up.

On balance I have seen more good movies than bad ones. Sadly, in my opinion the bad ones are making a heck of a lot more money than the good ones. But, that is often the case.

I have been happy with this years releases, 300 and Pirates were very good, 300 better than expected; solid 8's, Hot Fuzz was a delight for the year. Spiderman was expected, same for Ghost Rider.

It's impressive how well Disturbia is hanging in there. I mean, it hasn't made a lot of money compared to the various blockbusters, but it always seems to be on the charts...

I agree about 300 and Hot Fuzz. I was more talking about this season (beginning of Summer), not the whole year.

I can't agree on Pirates. It was somewhat entertaining, but the plot holes were just too huge for me to call it good.

Just wish I could come up with a true guideline for rating of movies, scaling does not seem to work and for me, it seems I adjust based on my mood. If asked which was the better movies; 300, Hot Fuzz & Pirates, I would tell people to see Hot Fuzz. :heh:

So far the only movie that's disappointed me, personally, was Spider-man. I had significantly lower expectations for Pirates and Shrek, which is probably a major reason I liked them so much. Unfortunately, I haven't seen too many movies this summer. I would've liked to see Disturbia and 28 Weeks Later, but the time just hasn't been there.

Waitress was a really good flick. We went to NYC while it was still in limited release, and I'm glad it's gotten the opportunity for more viewings.

It's only 3 million behind Spidey 3 once you subtract budgets (60 mil to 57 mil gross). Disturbia was a fun movie.
