30% to 40% of the "domestic take" comes from opening weekend.


I guess one of the few alternate strategies is one used by films like Gran Torino when it's this time of year and the Oscars are looming.

One of the big issues these days is number of screens, then the DVD market and On-Demand markets, which is HUGE. The big screen is becoming a form of advertisment.
