Hello, Yes, a thread with Bargle's name in the title had to bring in the Old Mystara Hands sooner or later... :D He does gain a ton of levels, but doesn't wind up dead, no matter how many people in Mystara may wish he were. In the post-Wrath of the Immortals Mystara timeline, his master Ludwig provokes his halfling neighbors once too often, and they show his overlord King Stefan Karameikos the true nature of his rule. Stefan seals the borders on his side of the Black Eagle Barony and gives the halflings carte blanche to deal with Ludwig as they will. As the halfling forces are closing in on his stronghold, Bargle persuades Ludwig to lead his forces in a counterattack, while Bargle stays behind to work magics that will assure its success. Once Ludwig is gone, Bargle teleports away with the entire contents of Ludwig's treasure chamber. The Barony falls, Ludwig is taken, and rumors of Bargle's presence have popped up in odd corners of the Known World ever since. Below is my homebrew 3e conversion of Bargle, taken from his Poor Wizard's Almanac II stats, the last set of "real" (i. e., OD&D, not neutered for 2e's level-20 limit) stats available for him. I've left him 28th level overall, and I've taken advantage of the 3e multiclassing rules to better fit his character to his history, which states that he was a petty criminal in the streets of Specularum before he killed his first wizard's apprentice and stole the spellbooks that set him on the path of magic. Bargle the Infamous, Ex-Magist of the Black Eagle Barony (Karameikos). Human Male Rogue 3/Wizard 25; CR 28; Medium-size Humanoid(Human); HD 3d8+25d4; hp 80; Init +7 (Dex, Improved Initiative); Spd 30 ft. (Bracers of Armor+8); AC 23 (Bracers of Armor+8, Staff of Power, Dex); Atk +21/+16 melee (1d4+2 w/crit 17-20/x2; Dagger+3); AL CE; Sv Fort+12, Ref+17, Will+16 (all saves include +2 bonus for Staff of Power); Str 9, Dex 17, Con 10, Int 25, Wis 9, Cha 15. Height 6'1"; Weight c. 140 lb. Skills and Feats: Alchemy+27, Appraise+12, Bluff+12, Climb+4, Concentrate+31, Diplomacy+16, Escape Artist+8, Hide+8, Jump+4, Knowledge(Arcana)+38, Knowledge(History)+22, Knowledge(Local/Karameikos)+17, Knowledge(Nature)+22, Knowledge(Nobility and Royalty)+17, Knowledge(the Planes)+27, Listen+7, Move Silently+8, Profession(Siege Engineer)+14, Scry+22, Search+4, Sense Motive+4, Spellcraft+38, Spot+4, Tumble+8; Dirty Fighting, Empower Spell, Extend Spell, Greater Spell Focus(Enchantment), Heighten Spell, Improved Critical(Dagger), Improved Initiative, Improved Spell Capacity x 3, Multispell, Quicken Spell, Run, Scribe Scroll, Spell Focus(Enchantment), Weapon Finesse(Dagger), Weapon Focus(Dagger). SA: Sneak Attack +2d6, Spells. SQ: Evasion (if makes Reflex save for 1/2 damage, takes no damage), Uncanny Dodge (keeps Dex bonus to AC when flat-footed or vs. invisible attackers). Posessions: Dagger+3, Bracers of Armor+8, Staff of Power (50 charges), Horn of Blasting, plus unknown others. Spells Per Day: 4/6/6/6/5/5/5/5/4/4/1/1/1. Spellbook: All Wizard spells in Player's Handbook, plus unknown others. Languages: Common(Thyatian), Traladaran, Goblin, Orc, Kobold, Abyssal. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to converting Aleena yet - I've started with those characters prominent enough to get their stats summarized in the Poor Wizard's Almanacs. And now I'll have to do a lot of revision to bring them all up to 3.5e standard... Anyway, hope this helps! :)
