So, what's the coolest move that you've managed to pull of in Three Dragon Ante?

For the Winnipeg Game Day, I played Three Dragon Ante the whole day. I was supposed to run a block of D&D in the second slot, but it ended up being cancelled (lack of players) so I taught Darth Shoju how to play 3DA.

He was a fast learner, and since I had a lot of good dragon cards, I had amassed a full 10-card hand. We play, and get 3 rounds in - and I tie up the game. Darth Shoju plays his card in the 4th round - and I tie up the game. And this happens again. And again. And Again. And again. In fact, we got all the way to the - but hold on a minute, it gets better.

Because, in the eigth round of 3DA, Darth Shoju pulls out a Dragon Slayer. So he's now 8 points ahead of me. Well crap. Since my flight cards are either 8 or higher, or 3 and lower, he slays a 3. So I'm 11 points behind him - with no card of 11 Strength! So I have nothing to lose here - he's beating me by 11, and I don't have a card that's 11 or higher. However, I did have a Copper Dragon in my hand - I think it was a 1 Strength. So I play it, and flip the 11 Gold Dragon! So, safe for another round! And I continue to tie him up for 4 more rounds, up to the 12th round when he played a 6 of something and I only had a 4.

All-in-all, great game with him, and loads of fun too!

So, anyone else have a 'war story' for 3DA?

The last time I played, my friend who was playing for the first time had a Bronze Dragon in his flight. He then played a Copper Dragon and the power triggered. The card it gave him was Tiamat. He still ended up winning the game, if not that gambit.

I love 3DA. Very, very cool game.

We generally get through a game in about 30 minutes or less. However, two weeks ago we played it after our D&D session and it went for over 90 minutes... Incredible. Whoever would have gone out always won the hand or managed to steal enough to get back in!

Last weekend's game was great. My first hand gave me a colour flight of 9, 11, 12. Won the flight *and* got 11 gold from each other player - in a 5 player game! Guess who won the match?

Craziest win I've seen: we wanted a short game, so each of the 8 players started with a hoard of 25 gold. On the first hand we had a 13 gold ante, and the winner took it with a couple of big gold dragons and nailed a bunch of us with Bahamut. Of the initial 200 gold around the table, he ended up with about 170.

It was a little shorter than we'd anticipated.

Nyaricus, that sounds like a really cool game. I can't match it, but I had an experience similar to Merric's once: I won on a high-scoring color flight of red dragons. To top it off, I triggered all three of them. (I think I just ran the lead.)

So, what's the coolest move that you've managed to pull of in Three Dragon Ante?

I don't know how cool it is but in one game, I kept using that one dragon (copper maybe?) that allows you to draw another card from the deck and I kept pulling these awesome powerful dragons. Happened something like four times in one game. All the other players were getting mighty pissed. Funny as hell.

Nothing like that, but we still have lots of fun with that game. It's always fun when someone gets to take dosh from the stakes and the guy who'll probably win gets angry at the stealing.
