[QUOTE="azmodean, post: 2056361, member: 26590"] I can't justify a grapple check doing something that exceeds the effectiveness of bull rush, also there is a specific grapple mechanic for moving. The fling feats and great throw, etc... are a different matter entirely, but untrained I couldn't see allowing someone the ability to even attempt this without ginormous penalties. As an estimate, I think you would have to grapple your opponent using the one hand penalty, and you could throw them 1' for each point by which your (penalized) grapple check exceeded theirs. Additionally, you cannot throw a creature who causes you to exceed your maximum load (including your own equipment). Harsh? Sure, but there are two things at work here. 1. bull rush is a somewhat similar check, but grapple allows you to use your bab as well as your strength and size, which potentially leads to a larger difference between you and your target's scores. It just doesn't seem resonable to use the same mechanic for a throw as fo a bull rush, hence the additional penalty. 2. Bull rush requires you to stay adjacent to the target, which limits its usefullness somewhat. 3. there are several effects that throw the target, with damage imposed based on how far they are thrown, I am keeping this in mind as a potential game balance issue. To any character interested in attempting this sort of thing, I would allow the feat that allows grappling with one hand with a reduced penalty (-10), I think it is in the draconimicron. Also you could work with snatch, but it only works on a target 3 size categories smaller than your character. I might also reduce the penalty involved by 10 if the character pinned the target first.
