Thylacine gripe

Grandmaster Cow

I hate the stats for the thylacine! Why was it made like that, it isn't a magical beast, its a real animal? It is known alsoas the tasmanian tiger, and is nothing like the one posted here. Why?

you'll find that quite a number of D&D creatures were created as magical/fantastic monsters, having the same name as real world animals. the thylacine, by ed greenwood, is one of these. why he chose to do it the way he did, i don't know, but i've always liked it. :) now if you just want another type of feline animal, it's easy enough to modify a tiger or lion's stats slightly. :)

The real animal was a marsupial, and would probably be a match for the wolf in size, stats and skills, though not entirely in habits.

I'd probably start with the wolf and give it the leopard's +4 hide and +8 move silently racial bonuses.
