TK vs Smoke/Gas/Fog/Mist

Telekinesis *should* affect gases and liquids.

I hope WotC resolves this issue for when psionics comes online.

I agree, sort of. The spell is only really granting one aspect of telekinesis - the ability to move one physical thing - but its name (and level perhaps) suggests it's granting broad telekinetic power.

So, yeah, it ought to affect gases and liquids (and do more!) or be renamed to reflect it's more limited power, something like "Move Object" but more interesting.

And if we changed the name, it becomes a little more clear that gust of wind, mold earth and lots of other spells are also essentially telekinetic powers, too - or can be flavoured that way without changing a thing - and all of them taken together would create a versatile telekinetic character.

The only thing I'd have to adjudicate is the "amount", as weight isn't going to cut it.

Yeah, good point. Rather than weight (mass), all the Telekinesis effects would be easier for the DM to adjudicate if the description refers to Size.

Spell Level: Size
0: Tiny (1-foot cube)
1-2: Small (3-foot cube)
3-4: Medium (5-foot cube)
5-6: Large (10-foot cube)
7-8: Huge (15-foot cube)
9: Gargantuan (20-foot cube)

Or possibly require an Arcana check to let them alter the spell.

I am a fan of making an Arcana check to do a ‘spell stunt’. An improvisation that alters the spell, but in a plausible way.

Mechanically, it works the same way as an Athletics stunt.

Nonsense. RAW has no definition of 'object'. This is completely in the realm of rulings.

Of course. And this is why I make my players hold their breath when they want to draw a sword or whatever, since you only get one free object interaction per round. :P
