The NPCs were whistling to help guide would-be rescuers to their location. The party leader, a tinker gnome, refused to be rescued and threatened to raise the alarm because he really wanted to finish his grand project. But it worked out well enough for the players, since they assured him he could continue his work . . . for them.</blockquote>
