To feats, or not to feats, that is the question— Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer The Slings and Arrows of Optimization, Or to take Arms against a Sea of options, And by one's ruling, ban them? I was gonna try to do the whole soliloquy, but got bored. I allow feats, because they are fun. None are so good that everyone feels required to take them. If someone takes a -5/+10 feat and it starts to be a problem, I figure I'll just decrease the +10 part by 1 each session until it stops feeling overpowered. Honestly, I love feats. They're these little packages of flavorful mechanics that help realize character concepts. I'm currently playing in an Adventurer's League game as a human who used to be a tavern-keeper until her establishment was destroyed in an unnaturally-fierce storm. After catching wind that elemental cults could be behind it, she vowed that that those responsible would face cast-iron justice at the end of her skillet, the only thing left of her beloved tavern. Mechanically, she's an avenger whose only weapon is a frying pan. I took the Tavern Brawler feat to make her proficient in frying pan, along with cooking oil and burning flasks of grease (alchemist's fire). I've even prepared a list of cooking-related one-liners for when I defeat a foe! Stuff like, "I'll non-stick it to you!" or "Griddle me THIS!" or "I'm hitting you very hard in the face with a frying pan"
