Now that D&D miniatures are on the way (huzzah!), it's gonna be a little obvious when the DM doesn't have the right miniature for a critter in an adventure. ("Uh... that's an ankheg. Yeah, that's it.")
One random thought, particularly for adventure PDF publishers, is to contact makers of counters and swap ad space for counters the PDF purchaser can use in his adventures. Customer wins with "free" extra product. Counter creator wins by getting sample counters in customer's hands. PDF publisher wins with product of extra value. (Hint: Make counters only of the uncommon critters, so the customer is encouraged to buy the bulk pack-o-hordes.)
This idea partially stolen from a dead tree product. (Viz., a counter set product specifically made to work with a particular adventure.)
