[ToEE] Game fails to load

I installed ToEE a couple of weeks ago on my new PC and it ran perfectly fine (with the patch!). However, I tried to play it again last night and it refused to load at all (i.e. the application flickered into life for a second on the task bar and then diappeared).

I've tried reinstalling to no avail and can only assume that something else I've installed since is in conflict with it.

Has anyone else experienced this? What was the offending software?

As my PC was new I've installed a shed load of stuff since and it would be a real pain to isolate the offending piece of software (even assuming my hypothesis is right!).

Have you recently upgraded your video card drivers?

In my case I have an nVidia geforce 4 card.
I could play the game perfectly fine until I upgraded to the latest driver set for the card.
Then when I tried to load the game I experienced the same problem that you are having.
I then uninstalled the newest version of drivers and went back to the ones that I was using and wa-laa...the game plays fine again.

Not the graphics card but your comment started me thinking. I have installed ReForce which forces XP to use your optimum refresh rate. After a bit of playing around I've discovered the opening screen of ToEE is 800 x 600 and will not tolerate an imposed refresh rate above 100Hz.
