Having just finished the Silmarillion I'll rate it this way. It's very slow going but picks up nicely. However I wouldn't EVER want to hear an audiobook version until I've read the text about 3 times. You, IMO, cannot read this without the index of characters that's in the back. There are 83 different elves that are sones of Finwe and have F names, then thier sons have F names. Then to top it all off...they have multiple names in a lot of cases. I've got the story down after one reading, in a general sence, but beyond Finwe and Faenor I get mixed up with who did waht becuase of the massive amount of names.
I'm going to let the book sit, think I'll start the Black Company instead.
