The fungus subtype applies to creatures (almost always plants) that are “more fungal” than ordinary plant creatures. It distinguishes common plant creatures like treants from other plant creatures such as shriekers and phantom funguses.</p><p></p><p>Other than the fact that this subtype applies to certain types of plant creatures, fungus creatures have no specific traits. The fungus subtype simply identifies creatures that may be vulnerable to spells, psionics, and effects that specifically target or affect funguses.</p><p></p><p>The following monsters should be considered to have the fungus subtype.</p><p></p><p>— Monsters from the MM: Phantom fungus, shrieker, violet fungus. Certain species of shambling mounds and tendriculoses may also have the fungus subtype.</p><p></p><p>— Monsters from the DMG: Green slime, yellow mold, brown mold.</p><p></p><p>— Monsters from the Tome of Horrors: Ascomoid, basidirond, gas spore, mandragora, olive slime, olive slime zombie, purple moss, phycomid, russet mold, twilight mushroom, vegepygmy.</p><p></p><p>— Monsters from the Tome of Horrors 2: Bog creeper, fulgurate mushroom, fungoid.</p><p></p><p>Though some of the above monsters are classified as hazards (such as yellow mold and russet mold), they still gain the fungus subtype and are considered fungus creatures with regards to certain spells and effects.</p><p></p><p>Gravity: This subtype usually is used for elementals and outsiders with a connection to the Elemental Plane of Gravity. Gravity creatures always have fly speeds and usually have perfect maneuverability.</p></blockquote><p></p>

New Subtype This book introduces two new subtypes: fungus and gravity. Fungus: The fungus subtype applies to creatures (almost always plants) that are “more fungal” than ordinary plant creatures. It distinguishes common plant creatures like treants from other plant creatures such as shriekers and phantom funguses. Other than the fact that this subtype applies to certain types of plant creatures, fungus creatures have no specific traits. The fungus subtype simply identifies creatures that may be vulnerable to spells, psionics, and effects that specifically target or affect funguses. The following monsters should be considered to have the fungus subtype. — Monsters from the MM: Phantom fungus, shrieker, violet fungus. Certain species of shambling mounds and tendriculoses may also have the fungus subtype. — Monsters from the DMG: Green slime, yellow mold, brown mold. — Monsters from the Tome of Horrors: Ascomoid, basidirond, gas spore, mandragora, olive slime, olive slime zombie, purple moss, phycomid, russet mold, twilight mushroom, vegepygmy. — Monsters from the Tome of Horrors 2: Bog creeper, fulgurate mushroom, fungoid. Though some of the above monsters are classified as hazards (such as yellow mold and russet mold), they still gain the fungus subtype and are considered fungus creatures with regards to certain spells and effects.
