Too Few Reviews to Peruse: Draconomicon

First Post
I've only read a couple reviews for Draconomicon from WOTC that I wonder if people really liked it, or they are just not commenting on it. It has been 6 months since its release and I am still trying to figure out if the $ is worth it.

Does anyone have the book and what do you think?

Well, my review was 5 stars.

I've used some of the new creatures and some of the background. My favorite part though is the pregenerated lairs and encounters for a dragon of each stage. Saves me a ton of time.

The Draconomicon is just packed full with so much Dragon material, I think many just passed on reviewing it and just went out and bought it. :p

A wonderful book and any DM worth their salt should own it for lots of Dragon stuffs. I love it and still gape at the number of dragon types and meaty detail in there. Good stuff.

It's a great book! The most useful bits are the fully statted dragons (one of each age category for each chromatic and metallic type), the sample hoards, and the draconic feats and spells. There's a lot of good stuff in it and it's also very enjoyable to read -- one of the few large RPG books where I've read the whole thing cover to cover.

If I'd written a review, it would have got 5/5.

Cheers

Richard

Its worth the money. A real 5/5 product. I recommend it to anyone who uses Dragons in any quantity in their games. Its quite perfect for a Dragonlance game.

one of the better newer edition products out there.

not much in it that hasn't been covered in previous editions, articles, or materials...but still worth the 40% discounted price.

don't pay full price for it. there are too many "share the love" threads here and elsewhere.

I think it is one of the two best WotC products since the revision (the other being UA). The rest seem to be a bit lacking to me.

I don't own the book but I have taken a look at it from a friend.

My first opinion is that the Draconomicon is much more a beautiful book to behold and keep in your collection rather than a really useful gaming tool.

The first part about biology, ecology and everything flavorful seemed to be very nice to read (I didn't read it very carefully, just had time to browse, but I was nicely impressed), but not necessarily usable in the game.

Then there is a long part about characters, new dragons, feats and PrCls and so on, essentially the typical gallery of "crunchy bits" :) I cannot say much, but I liked the fact that they were unified by the draconic theme.

There are several useful tables or paragraphs here and there, example dragons by age, example hoards and so on. Useful indeed to save time, but since dragons are supposed to be quite rare, you'll hardly use the majority of the book (this is not necessarily bad, it happens with most of the books ;) ).

It is definitely a book that I will look forward to buy in the future - hoping for a small price decrease overtime - but I expect to keep it more as a great book to read, rather than hoping to use it largely.
