Touch attacks and the AoO

Demoquin

First Post
Does the touch attack from a spell draw an AoO as it is 'unarmed'? For simplicity, lets say a mage cast chill touch outside of a threatened area (holding charge) then moves in (AoO fails, or tumble) then goes to use the charge. Does the target get another AoO (combat reflexes) because he is not armed for touch fighting?

Touch spells count as armed. Check out the Touch Spells in Combat paragraph in the combat chapter (p. 140/141 PHB).

Oh, and moving *into* a threatened area does *not* provoke an AoO, only moving *out of* a threatened square does. So unless, the target has reach, there is no AoO for approaching.

Not only that, but the "moving in" part will not normally provoke an AoO unless, for example, the opponent has reach.

Edit: Wth? I know Thanee didn't have that second sentence in there when I composed my post!

Provoking an Attack of Opportunity: Two kinds of actions can provoke attacks of opportunity: moving out of a threatened square and performing an action within a threatened square.

Moving into a threatened square is neither of these actions.

LOL, sorry! I just noticed that in the original post after re-reading it and then added the second part. :)

I thought it important to mention that you'd also get an attack of oppurtunity with the chill touch spell if you cast it and someone drew an attack of oppurtunity from you (moved through a square you threaten or casting or some such) before you managed to hit someone with it. (chill touch does discharge after the first successful touch right?)

And don't feel bad about the thinking moving up to someone to attack provoke an attack of oppurtunity. I thought that intill about a month ago.
