Toughts for plot advancement(MY PLAYERS OUT)

First Post
Ok so I am running a d20 Modern/Urban Arcanaesque setting and last night my players got a big chunk of the meta-plot going on. Heres the backround, The four of them work for a private (sort of) orginization who are the "law" for the shadowkin in NYC. The head of this group is a Silver Dragon (Polymorphed {Of course! ;) }). He brought the heroes to a mob boss meanting to try and settle a simmering mob war. The main mob guys were a regular mob boss, with a Vampire pulling his strings, but acting as his Lt. A Mind Flayer, Lich, a Yuan Ti yakuza boss, a Russian Werewolf, and two other mob bosses, possible shadow kind. I didnt describe them in great detail. Now in the middle of this meeting, The BIG bad guy walks in. He is the arch enemy of the Silver Dragon, and yes is a Red Dragon. Now he basicly states that he is taking over the crime families and if you dont join him, he'll destroy you, blah blah blah, typical bad guy stuff. Now what I want to know is would it be.....logical for any of these other guys to work for/with the Red Dragon? The reason being is the Red Dragon wants to use the mob families finances to construct a device to create a portal to the shadow world to bring the rest of his dragon breathen here to take over the world. Of course once the heroes get there to stop him, the machine will malfunction and oops, looks like your in my d20 future setting! :) This wont happen for a bit, but I just wanted to make sure that the foundation is set. Thoughts? :)

Sounds like you've got it pretty much covered.
The question about whether or not it would make sense for the other shadowkind to work for the Red Dragon (and make no mistake.... there's no working WITH a red dragon... :) ) I think it depends on a couple of questions...
1) Do the Shadowkind KNOW he's a Red Dragon?
2) If the answer to #1 is yes, do the Shadowkind know ABOUT Red Dragons (their power and ruthlessness)?
If both are yes, then of course the mob bosses will work for him.... As far as he knows. That doesn't mean that they won't secretly plot his demise/downfall/failure/whatever. :)

Oh yeah. All the shadowkind knew him, and I played up the fact that they knew they were in deep poo.

They have an idea, but not HOW nasty they can be.

Ok that helps! This should get intresting. The Bad guy hinted that he fought the characters boss. Over Tunguska. In 1908. It was fun watching the wheels turning in my players head. :] :] :] Overheard as I left, "I think we're in a little over our heads." "Ya think?"

I like the Tunguska reference!
Yeah... the mob bosses could even go so far as to try to secretly hire or pay off the heroes to help take care of their common problem.

Seems like any crime boss worth his salt would step up to the challenge of someone taking over. You don’t get to crime boss by steeping aside when someone ask for your spot.

With a new dragon boss there would be nothing but demotions all around. Also if they know the dragons master plan then they will get even less in the long run.

I’d make it a mob war. The chaos would be great.
