Toys 'R Us has D&D, but...

During my Christmas shopping I went to a couple of Toys 'R Us stores. They had the D&D Basic set on the shelves, which is a good thing to keep the game in the public view. However, the Basic set they have is the 3.5 Basic version and not the current version of the game.

Now, it is easy to understand how this could happen (they are going to keep selling it until they run out of stock or are determined that it isn't moving). I still think this wouldn't be the situation WotC wants. Especially since the 4E Basic set isn't an option there, either.

Some where Scott Rouse posted that they are getting the new starter, but will carry the old beta until at least after the new year. I'd have to find the exact post, its in the thread asking if a Christmas gift introduced people to D&D.

Didn't that one come with Aberrations minis with it or with a special set of minis? MAybe that is why it is a "toy" at Toyz-B-Us.
Well, it is in the game section (and this year seems to be the Christmas of the "game" for me, as I am giving almost everyone some sort of game for Christmas).

Toy-R-Us has carried D&D stuff in some capacity for a long while. I remember as a kid going to buy Nintendo games there and noticing some 2e FR stuff (which frightened the heck out of me because I was a sheltered little boy and had heard that D&D was connected to devil worshipping and the standard 80's crazy paranoia).

I wonder if its carrying or not is a corporate policy, or regional, or store by store.

It would make sense to carry the version that people are actually going to be playing. So kudos to Toys R Us. ;)

Oh man that is hilarious! :) My wife had to ask what I was laughing at.

I couldn't find any D&D at my local Toys R Us. They do carry lots of things other than toys.
