Trade Goods rules question

Lucius Foxhound

First Post
Perusing my PHB the other day, I came upon p. 96 that lists the value of Trade Goods... specifically, animals.

Can someone tell me why one Dog costs 25 GP while an Ox is only 15 GP, a cow is only 10 GP, and even a goat is a mere 1 GP??

What's so great about these dogs?

It's those deep, soulful brown eyes, mang.

Seriously, though... even if we're talking about trained hunting dogs (and I doubt any DM would assume that the dig you just traded for is a world-class hunting dog), well, should two cows cost more than a trained hunting dog?

I think someone at WotC just has a thing for dogs.... :)

how much does a cow cost today? how much for a dog? and I'm not talking about the 'Free puppies.' A cow is what? 100 dollars. A good dog can be at least $400.

leave it to the ham

leave it to the ham to state the case for a little dog....hmm now that I think about it he is very fond of little pathetic things like deep gnomes named finippir....who are obviously inferior to mighty drow named Tebryn. ;)
