I've never used any of the options which required characters who got the requisite number of xps to train for a certain number of weeks before getting the new level - it never sat well with me. But it has just occurred to me that I could fit it in quite neatly by requiring the appropriate amount of time spent training *during* your current level. Thus a 5th level party would need to spend a total of 6 weeks in training during their adventures (or between their adventures) before they could reach 6th level... but if they were able to do that training en-bloc over the winter months, then when their next adventure takes them to 6th level xps, they immediately get the benefits of the next level (when they need them too!) After all, the Wizard is supposed to add two new spells to his spell book each level from "general research". This is the kind of thing that he would be doing. It would also help me to ensure that characters that are thinking of multiclassing one way or another will have to put in some appropriate training time beforehand, rather than just making a decision on the spur of the moment (from the characters point of view). I think this would work well - in fact I think it would work better for my purposes than any of the existing training methods. What do you think? Cheers
