Transcendance

I'm working on making a high-level NPC for a game I hope to run, and I've run into some issues with the ability 'Transcendance.' There are many classes that grant this abilitiy, or something simmilar, so I'm only going to describe the ones that appear to be the most conflicting.

This NPC will most likely have this ability from two classes. At current, I'm looking at Divine Disciple (Faerun Campaign Setting) and Elemental Archon (Faiths and Pantheons).

What happens when these two abilities conflict?

For example (descriptions snipped where possible):

Divine Disciple
Transcendance: Her type changes to outsider, which means that she aquires some immunities and vulneratilities based on her type.

Elemental Archon
Elemental Transcendance: Her type changes to elemental (with the subtype according to her chosen element)...

Now, there are other issues with what this... creature... will look like, but I can handle that. What I don't know how to handle is what type the NPC is, and what immunities it has (each type would give different immunities).

The easiest thing I can think of is that the second class she completes is the type she is currently. Therefore, if she completes Disciple, she be an outsider. If she then completes Archon, she stops being an outsider and becomes an elemental. Is this correct?

What happens, for example, if the character is later level drained? Does she revert to her other race as well as class? What about reincarnated?

There is a type pyrimid in Savage Species, which I don't recall off hand. There is a point where your type stops changing, and I think outsider might be it. That would cover what immunities/abilities you get.

If you are drained enough that you actually lose the level that gave you transendence you lose the type. Note, negative levels won't do, you have to die or fail the save on a negative level.

Hmm.. Ok. I think I'd prefer that the character gets type elemental (and it's harder to get with this combination), but if that's how it works, then I should look it up.

I would think you go with whatever their last transcendence was. An outsider is considered to have part of their essence from another plane, so it would work out that they be an outsider with part of their essence from whatever elemental plane they are associated with.

Refer to the outsider type in the appendix of the 3.5 MM.

Cool ability.

Seaking of the Divine Disciple, does anybody else think this PrC is just a little too good? You give up +1 BAB, 5 levels of Turning, and a good Fort. save for another domain, some nice little bonuses, and Transcendance!

The only requirements are 4th level divine spells, 5 ranks of diplomacy, and 8 ranks of Know (Religion).

Apply the rules normally. If a character transcends into an outsider they become an outsider. If they later transcend into an elemental, they become an elemental abd are no longer an outsider.
