Transparency issues when printing.

First Post
Hi,

I'm having some issues printing my Reign of Discordia Book.

Basically, the printer is not reading the transparencies (even though they were flattened) correctly, and applying a grey film over places where a glow, or a drop shadow was used.

The layout guy is working in INdesign CS3.

Has anyone else had these issues?

Any advice on how to fix the problem would really be appreciated.

thanks.

What kind of printer is it? Are the drivers current? (In particular, are they PostScript Level 3 compliant?)

What color mode is the document in (CMYK or RGB)? Is the transparency flattener mode the same? What does the Preflight say (in CS2, this is File > Preflight)?

When you print to a PDF, do you get the same result? What about when you export the PDF instead? What about when you print the PDF?

Hiya Marius,

I'm REALLY sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I think we have the issues worked out. They weren't flattening, so he made sure they were all flattened.

I hope that fixes them I'm waiting on the proof to see.

Thanks again for the response.

Just as a general rule of thumb, if it won't hurt anything else, I've found that sending ID 2 or 3 to PDF before printing is almost always the way to go. It flattens the transparencies and fixes a few other little problems some RIPs have a problem with.

I've had transparency problems when going from PC to MAC and I use Indesign CS3. The gradients were ruined. Flattening the image did fix the problem.
