Trapped DMs (Would rather be players)

I found this thread about a group with too many DMs http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34416 interesting. Many stated they had never had this problem, but wished they did. I was wondering how many DMs would rather be playing at least 50% of the time?

I MUCH prefer DMing and only play on special occassions. I used to think everyone wanted to DM. However, I have a couple of guys who DM on occassion solely because it is the only way they can play a particular game.

Are you a "trapped" DM? How did it happen?

I'm with you on this score, but consider this a bump because I am curious to hear more opinions on this. :)

BTW I love the pictures in your story hour (though I really do read it for the articles...) ;)

My name is Barsoomcore, and I am a trapped DM. I've been running a game for about three years now and have a group of six players. Three (no, wait, four) of those players have expressed a desire to run a game from time to time (one even promised to run one as a birthday gift to me), but nothing has developed.

I don't think I would want to play 50% of the time, but even 10% would be a nice change of pace.

I love DMing, don't get me wrong, but I haven't played a character in a LONG time....

I'm a DM...wishing I had the opportunity to play more. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy being DM, it is just that opportunity to play has been so rare for me that I would leap at the opportunity to be a player.

Fortunately, I am planning to go to GenCon this year (for the first time ever!). Perhaps there I will finally get to play to my heart's content.

I suppose you could say I'm a trapped DM... I'd rather play, but I have a bad tendency (which I try to combat) of forgetting about the whole "DM is always right" thing (which I do have some issues with, from both sides of the screen), which means that I'm probably a lot easier to deal with when I'm DMing and having my way... ;)

I love to play. Every time I'm the DM I'll put the PCs in the position to get themselves killed. They usually do * .. lol. 3 sessions is a good average for a "Wee Jas campaign" lol. :D

* Like fighting an Great Wyrm White Dragon! (/Snickers at inside joke)

Well, I do like to DM. But to play every once in a while would be nice.

Thats how I feel. DMing is very rewarding to me and if I had to choose one or the other, I would choose DMing almost everytime. But it would be nice to every once in a while be the player.

I'm another 'trapped' DM. I started my game almost 3 years ago when I was switching off with 3 other DMs. So I would DM at most 2 a month. Slowly one DM lost interest and the other DM's game fell apart. So I felt like I was the only one holding our gaming group together.

Others have talked about running games. We have picked up another person that DMs but hasn't shown interest in taking over.

I've so far DMed more games in both 2e and 3e then played.

I used to be a trapped DM for about 12 years or so. Basically, if I didn't run the game no one else would. So, it was me DM or no game. It's nice to play every so often though.
