I love some good traps but I also like them to be somewhat realistic. It's pretty easy to design a very complicated trap, but would the kobolds really put it there? Would a wizard really spend 1000's of gp building a bizarre mechanical trap with tilting floor panels and talking statues that then triggers magical effects when something more simple would do the job?
For me there are plenty of simple traps that can still cause some pause to the players and that don't break the immersion with the players suddenly thinking "oh it's a trap encounter".
