I want to thank everyone for the comments. This is very useful for my purposes. I certainly will use the endurance check for the "help someone up". Though if they fail the endurance check, the party will definitely be racking up penalties. It's funny you mention quests, and then discuss the village at the base of the volcano. The PCs are actually trying to stop the villagers from sacrificing some "children" to the Volcano god. The villagers, if they make their sacrifice, will gain great power and go on the war path (so they have been told). The "Children" are actually a young green dragon's eggs, and she has cajoled the PCs into rescuing the eggs. Right now, the villagers are a threat (and a potential resource later). If the PCs failed their quest, then the eggs would get destroyed. Which means the green dragon is going to be very, very upset. As for the Volcano God: Gelatinous Cube: I would go that route - but the GC only has two abilities. Very boring for a Solo monster. Even if you added on the flaming body of the Scion of Flame, eh. Red Dragon: The reasons I am not using this is: A) I only have 2 players. They started the adventure playing 3 characters a-piece, but that really bogged things down, so I had them just run 2 characters a-piece. If I wanted to, I could let them bring in the other 2 for the climactic battle. B) There will be more than the solo monster present. The Village's high priest (Lvl 5 controller) will be there, and whatever the Volcano God summons (minions, possibly). Orc Bloodrager/Cave Bear: The cave bear suffers from the "Two power" problem. The Bloodrager is tempting, very tempting. He's seriously going to be putting down the hurt with regards to damage. Although it doesn't really seem very fire-y. Roger's Multi-Part God: I've done that before, with a sea monster. It's tempting, but
