I'm currently trying to make a Baaz Draconian from the Dragonlance setting playable as an equal to a 1st level character. I'm not sure if my changes are enough, though, and I could use an opinion. The base Baaz has 2 racial hit dice and a +1 level adjustment. I'm trying to make the 2 racial hit dice version the equivelent of a 1st level character. My current version has the following: +2 Con, -2 Intelligence, -4 Wisdom Medium 2 Dragon Hit Dice (skills, bab, feats, hp, and saves as such) 2 natural weapons (claws, 1d4) 1 natural weapon (bite, 1d4) Natural armor +2 Death Throes: When a Baaz is reduced to 0 hit points or less, it becomes petrified. If the creature that struck the last attack used a slashing or piercing weapon, it must make a (DC 12 + Con modifier) Reflex save, or have it's weapon fuzed inside the Baaz body. Baaz cannot be healed in any way without the use of a stone to flesh spell. Baaz reduced to -10 hit points by an attack or Baaz destroyed while in stone form die, and can only be raised by a resurrection, true resurrection, or wish spell. Low Metabolism: Baaz draconians can survive on one-tenth the food and water it takes to sustain a human. Healing rejection: A Baaz cannot be healed by any means except for health recovered from normal rest. This means that a Baaz cannot be healed by cure spells or by any alternative means, however, the Baaz can gain temporary hit points normally. This includes healing ability damage and regenerating lost limbs. A Baaz still regains one hit point per day per hit dice and one ability score point per ability score per day normally. I'm trying to offset the extra dragon hit dice as best I can, and although it's still more powerful than a 1st level character would be on average (better BAB and Saves for one), I'm hoping that the lack of the ability to recieve healing and the more strict rules for turning to stone from death are enough to make the class "worth" a bit less. I'm planning on applying this to normal Baaz so that they are only about CR 1 as well.
