Tumbling Through a Line

Howdy.

If a row of men are blocking your passage and you decide to get passed them by tumbling, does it work as follows:

Roll your Tumble check.
- Result >= 25, you pass through unharmed.
- 15 >= Result < 25, you draw an AoO from the foe you tumble through.
- Result < 15, you draw an AoO from the foe you tumble through and the two foes flanking him.

Thanks for any clarification.

Cheers,

I never thought about that before but it's a valid interpretation of the rules. Definitely the kindest interpretation to the tumblers too.

If there was a line of folks trying to prevent your escaping them then they would all have readied actions for when you tried to go past them. he moment you got within range they would attempt a grapple check...Tumbling is fine but if they grappple you you're not going anywhere.

Your interpretation does seem correct, but if I were running the game, I think I would play it a little bit differently (and harder for the character).

The character would have to make three tumble checks, one for each character, and take AoOs as appropriate. It may take more time, but I think it also better represents the situation. For instance, its possible for the character to accidentally leave himself open to one of the side enemies while he spends time dodging around the one in the center. The other interpretation doesn't allow this possibility to occur.

Lets say it is one interpretation that is correct. The other is your DC is 25 and you failed so everyone gets AoO. That is just as correct.

A check for each creature is just too much rolling and doesn't jive with the rules anyway.
