Turning Feats and Stacking

Hey all,

I'm building a Liches are my Bitches type cleric.. mostly specing. in the blowing up of creatures that just can't seem to stay dead.

In the multiple supplements I found a bunch of feats that will make me less useless against undead that are resistant to turning. Also, there are insta-destruction feats that make it that any undead that I can turn I can blow up (which I don't think i'll take, as it may kill my DMs fun as well as mine).

So, my question is.. do the various feats stack? IE can I do a heightened empowered exalted turn with no penatly? The question came up and my DM decided that exalted was free for any turn, and any 1 mod. was free, and any 1 mod. after that used up 1 more turn attempt. I agreed b/c I wasn't sure if there was a ruling anywhere and so I check here.

Thanks!

Sure they stack. No reason why they wouldn't. You should definitely go Radiant Servant of Pelor if you can swing it. Getting 3+Cha Bonus Improved Turning attempts is awesome. However, it makes Exalted Turning even more crappy than it is normally, since if you succeed, they poof, and if you fail, Exalted Turning does nothing.

Now if Exalted Turning worked even when you failed your turn attempt, *then* it would be much more useful.

Nice thing about Pelorites is that they can take the Glory domain, which has the awesome ability of adding +2 to turn rolls and +1d6 turn "damage". Well worth it. I have a RSoP who took Glory and Sun as his domains... sure he's wasting the healing domain abilities of RSoP, but Healing Domain is total crap.. .and you get a bonus domain at level 5 of Radiant Servant, and I'm going to take Healing domain then.

Empower Turning is kinda cool, but I think Quicken Turning is far more useful. That way you're not wasting a round turning (which might fail). If you can get something to increase the level of things you can turn, that is essential. That's the one thing about turning I hate - it's dependant on hit dice. A large CR 6 zombie has like 18 hitdice. That means you have to be 14th level and get a really good roll to turn it. CR SIX!! It's the whole problem of things being based off hitdice, when hitdice vary wildly versus CR. They fixed it with low HD, high CR things by giving them turn resistance. Maybe the high HD, low CR things need turn vulnerability...basically just negative turn resistance.

Anyway.... good luck :)

Unless the feat states that it takes a certain "time" frame or action type to perform, they can stack in the same round. Improved turning stacks with all other turning effects without taking a action or "stacking" limitations. Empower Turning again is one feat that has no limitations for what it can be used with. No action types or limits per day of any kind means this and Improved work together on the same turn attempt. Quicken Turning only has one limitation set to it...you can only make one turn attempt per round. Still meaens that so far, you can Improve, Empower, and Quicken the very same turn attempt. Heck you can even use Disciple of the Sun with this combo and the only added restriction there would be to burn another or your daily turn attempts to make it destroy everything you turn.

So to answer your question, yeah you could do all that and unless this is some sort or rule your GM purposely proposed to keep you from blasting away his weaker undead at the minimum level of 6 (or 9th if you took Extra Turn anywhere in there), that's not the way the rules read at all. As for the Exalted Turning, I don't have the book with it handy so I'm not sure how the text reads for it.

They don't stack with themselves, but they stack with each other. What, exactly, are you trying to stack, Derian?

I just wanted to make sure that a quickened, empowered, improved, exalted, discple of the suned turn was allowed :D

thanks for the feedback everyone!

Yep. You spent probably six feats (I'm assuming you also got Extra, since you use so many in a round), so have fun with crazy turnings. ;)

Just keep in mind that if you have the Sun domain, you get a free greater turning every day... if you take radiant servant of Pelor, that 1 turns into 3 + Cha bonus times per day/ Kinda makes Disciple of the Sun useless.

Oh, and if you can find any feats that increase your cleric level for the purposes of turning... GET THEM. The hardest thing about turning is that everything has so damn many hitdice (or if they don't, they have turn resistance). See my thread asking how turning works in other people's campaigns.
