Two-Handed Sword Lessons?

Renaissance Man

First Post
Is there any place in central to southern Maine, or possibly New Hampshire, where a lady friend of mine could take lessons in fighting with a two-handed sword?

You will have much more luck looking for such people/schools at www.swordforum.com.
She could also look into the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).

(the Sth Maine Chapter - http://www.malagentia.eastkingdom.org/)

I have no wish to get into discussion of whether SCA practices "good historical swordplay" but if you are enjoying yourself and you are having fun how cares.

If you are interested in the research yourself.
Here are some links to look at:

AEMMA's Library of Period Manuals
http://www.aemma.org/library_top.htm
namely their "The Art of Longsword Combat - Book #1"
http://www.aemma.org/onlineResources/publications/publications_body.htm#cvet

I personally like Italian Longsword, it suits my own Longsword style, there is one translation at the link below but I would suggest get to a seminar of Bob Charron. His classes are brilliant.
Anyway that translation

Hope that is of help

As I understand it, yes, they do practice "good historical swordplay", as best as it can be researched, and applied to modern reasonable safety standards.

Mind you, "good historical swordplay" is absolutely nothing at all like you see in the movies. From outside the combat, the whole thing looks pretty simple and boring.
