One of my GMs is such a monty haul bastard. So here's the set-up: We finish making our characters, 4th level. I'm a thief 2/soldier 2, we've got the barbarian 4, the soldier 4, and the noble 2/pirate 2. After I get all my gear bought and my character finished, the GM had me and the other soldier roll a 'luck roll,' and I got the lowest. "Ryan, you're a slave," he says. "Trae, you're a slave too." The barbarian's player, Trae, is like, "Why didn't I get to roll?" "You're a Cimmerian! Of course they've made you a slave." "What about Neil?" says Trae. "He didn't have to roll." "He's a noble. Why would a noble be a slave. Ha! Stop complaining. You're in the desert, the two slaves chained between a pair of wagons. You're both wearing loincloths, and they've generously given you shoes so your feet don't blister on the scorched sands, still searing hot even in the dead of night." Turns out me and the barbarian are slaves, and the other two PCs are guards of the caravan, but the caravan leader doesn't like any of us, so when we make camp for the day, the rest of the caravan guards try to attack and capture the two PC guards. Meanwhile, my Cimmerian friend and I have feigned sleep, and are trying to rip open the iron links in the manacles holding us, when we spot the other guards sneaking toward the two guards who were supposed to be watching us. I shout a warning to them to wake up, just in time, and a massive brawl breaks out. The soldier guard is grappling and using human shields and throwing people into the sides of wagons, and the nobleman is fencing his way safely between various foes, while we two slaves parry with our manacle chains so that the blows will cut us free, and then we begin wrestling weapons out of our enemy's hands. A massive warrior with a tulwar -- the caravan leader's personal bodyguard -- came at us, but we managed to triple team him and take him down. Then, as the caravan master made a run for his camel, I popped off a shot from the noble's arquebus (which I had previously been using as a club), and slew the bloated bastard. Sounds good so far, right? Well, then things were ruined. We loot the guy, and he has a mystical symbol on a chain around his neck! Magic! Plus we got, like, a half dozen swords from the guards we hewed to pieces. Can you believe the level of monty-haulism here. It's terrible. But I love playing a Conan game.
