Uh oh! Gen Con 2004....

This is from an article in today's Indianapolis Star:

"If numbers are the only measure of an event's worth, then yes, the Brickyard 400 has overtaken the Indianapolis 500 as the biggest, most popular event that is run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

"The Brickyard gets the crowds, having become as tough a ticket, or even tougher, than the Indianapolis 500."

If you're curious what all the hoo-ha is about, the Brickyard's being run this Sunday; you shouldn't have any trouble finding coverage online or on tv.

They've scheduled next year's GenCon opposite this? If you're planning on going next year, I'd advise that you seriously consider booking as soon as a hotel will let you, regardless of what the convention organizers might say. Better safe than sorry.

It would be wise to try to set a new date as soon as possible for Gen Con. Hotel space will be at a premium for the Brickyard 400.

Hopefully, Peter Adkison will not have a problem working with the hotels in setting up a good date for Gen Con.

The best place to check, I think, would be the Indianapolis Star.

It's address is http://www.indystar.com

I did a search and here are some articles:

I think someone should tell the writer of the last article that Gen Con was originally named after Lake Geneva, site of the first few conventions in Wisconsin, not the Geneva Conventions on warfare.

Overall, I did not see much different from how the Milwaukee press covered Gen Con.

Actually...

I don't have it here at work with me, but I believe I read in the Unofficial History of GenCon that it was named after both Lake Geneva and the Geneva Convention. It's a pun. So the author of that Star article was partially right.

When I ended up stuck in Indy cuz of the food poisoning, and the little (very nice!) motel room I found outside of the city was only 45 a night, I thought VERY hard about staying for the race this weekend anyway ... It might have cost me an extra bit, but I really wanna chance to see a race. If Peter could schedule GenCOn the week before/after next year, I think I'll PLAN for that.
