I reject [flowers]. If he wanted a Robe of Armor, which granted a +12 FORCE EFFECT ARMOR BONUS to AC in a single slot, then yes, the appropriate item to compare it to would be Bracers of Armor +12 (which also grant a +12 FORCE EFFECT ARMOR BONUS to AC, at the cost of a single slot). However, he isn't looking for a +12 Armor Bonus to AC etc. He's looking for a +4 Armor bonus to AC and a +2 Deflection bonus to AC and ... etc. You haven't grasped this point yet, and I doubt you will at this juncture, but there it is. As has been mentioned many, many times, he can get all of these bonuses on multiple, independent items without hitting an "Epic" threshhold. The question then should be, "How much does it cost to take a Ring of Protection +2" and add it to "Bracers of Armor +4"? The non-Epic rules provide the following guideline: take the cost of the most expensive property, and add 1.5x the cost of all other properties, and then compare it to another item. I maintain that a far more reasonable item to compare it to is Full Plate +4 - at a cost of 17,650 GP. Notice that the price of the Monk equipment is 73,000 GP. For a roughly-equivalent benefit (+12 to AC in most situations), it is four times as expensive as the Full Plate, and in line with the cost of Full Plate +9 (roughly 82k GP) - say, the previously mentioned Full Plate +4 that also had the bonus of Fortification (100%). You can go on and on about Epic Bracers of Armor as much as you want, but there is a quantifiable reason that no one else agrees with you that this robe is an Epic magic item.
