This post may seem out of nowhere, but it is in response to someone saying that my ideas don't belong in a D&D game. Here is my reply to try and justify and rationalize all my ideas into something anyone should be able to understand; also don't take offense to this. ^^ "I completely understand what you're saying and I agree that D&D games shouldn't be run like...Exalted, for example, however, my reasons for this are all legitimately explained and accepted by my DM. The game is set pre-Warforged and she's letting my Artificer pave the way for their arrival. My having an interest in mechanical technology is explained as I changed from Artificer to Renegade Mastermaker. It's my obsession with technology that drives my character in the game. Plus, my DM has flat out told us that she's been turning the game into a "Horror Campaign." She's put us up against evil, possessed children who have the power to mind control cities' leaders, several groups of bounty hunters, the demons of Ashtakala, the Lords of Dust, invaders from another realm who threaten all of Eberron, and has even made us RP horrible events such as demon impregnation, abortion, torture, cannibalism, and nightmares from the Dream Realm itself." So, why outside observers might think this is a little obsessive, from an in-game perspective, if you're going to build something, you have to build it BIG. And as I've said previously, I know that most of this will be nerfed by the DM when I present my finished draft and have the necessary items in-game (no telling how long that will take), but it is my job to come up with creative ideas. I simply posted these ideas online to ask for help, critique, comments, and to inspire others to branch out from the norms (as I've seen a severe lack of people interested in custom constructs in D&D circles online). I understand people's concern about constructs like this becoming to OP in a game, but like I said, I am fully aware of how OP this construct is and that the DM is going to tone it down severely." Now that that is out of the way, I'd like to get this thread back on track to keep from any other "bad vibes" appearing. ^^ I have recently come up with an idea to fix my "energy pool" problem: use a summoned elemental. I would summon an elemental (of the proper element/power/etc) and trap it inside a gem/crystal/whathaveyou and install it inside the construct's mithril/adamantine armored body. The gem can be hardened or whatever is needed. The construct will then use the elemental as a power supply (which I will propose to the DM later to find out if she would allow such a thing) for all the unit's "non-essential" systems, aka anything not covered under the Awaken spell's parameters. This is where I could use some experienced D&D players knowledge and creativity. I need a way to explain how I'm using an elemental as a power source; be it via energy or life, etc. So, any ideas? :D P.S. And transbot9, could you give me a good example of how to raise SR on a construct? I'm more than willing to look at all possibilities. B-)
