Unarmed strikes: is everyone automatically proficient?

Trying to find a reference I thought I read, maybe I'm thinking 2E here, but I coulda sworn all classes were automatically proficient in Unarmed attacks even though they're listed as Simple Weapons. If you know where the reference is either way I'd be grateful -- thanks

I think so...they are in their own Catagory...and it would be silly for druids to not be profienct in them, even thought they don't have all simlple, but "unarmed" is not listed. Same as Monks, they are not listed...but if monks aren't natuallry proficent in punching...
Finally, improved unarmed strike doesn't have "profency in un-amred fgighting" as a requierment, which i think it would if everyone ddint' have profeicny...

I think everyone is profiecnt in their own natural weapons...

Those are good reasons. I need a quote or page reference or errata listing or sage advice note or something though... let's just say it could masterfully impact a certain computer tool we're all waiting for.

OK I should learn to search my own website first. :) I have a quote on the Combat section of the "Black Pages" from Sean Reynolds stating "Everyone is automatically proficient with their own natural weapons (punches, kicks, and so on for humans). "

Anyone have a 2nd printing of the PHB? What does the weapon chart look like -- where are unarmed strikes placed?
