"Uncheatable" online dice rollers for PbP?

First Post
I'm starting a new Pbp game soon, probably, and have just encountered a problem. My group has thus far simply rolled their dice and trusted each other to be honest and post the actual rolls. It's worked well, nobody seems to be cheating, and the games have been fun.

But now we've got a new player coming in who isn't used to online play. She doesn't trust the other players to be honest about their rolls, nor does she trust me as the GM to not alter rolls in somebody's favour (despite that she knows me in real life and knows that I never fudge rolls :erm: )

So she's demanding I find a way of rolling online that can't be cheated. EN World's method of adding a dice roll to your posts is actually a pretty good example of what I'm hoping to find, but unfortunately the game isn't going to be hosted on EN World.

I'm hoping to just find something that satisfies her, as I and the rest of the group don't really care how rolls are made. If I can't find anything good I suppose I'll just have to tell her to suck it up, and hopefully she'll see why our method has been working fine with this group since we started playing.

Even though she's new to the group and doesn't know anybody but me, it wouldn't kill her to have a little faith in my trust of the rest of them... However I digress, does anybody know of any dice rollers like what I'm looking for?

Home is the bog standard dice roller used by many here, even since EN World got its own. Someone else might better be able to explain its features than I though.

Yay, a PbP question! I feel all qualified to answer and stuff.

Anyway, I'm a fan of Invisible Castle. You roll, making a note in the note section why, then you link to it in your IC post. Simple enough.

Yes, I second Invisible Castle. They even have a good search function to look for rolls with certain titles.

Jsut have players put their names and what they are rolling for in detail.

Invisible Castle is a great site for those dice rolls (mark me as number 3 in supporting that one), but really, the game is always supposed to involve trust.

If you can't have trust in the person running the game to not keep it moving in a fun direction (where fun is for everyone, not just a single person, and this includes cheating on the dice rolls), then why are you playing the game? Why are others allowing you in the game if you are already coming into the game believing everyone else at the table is cheating?

Note: you means her in this example, but you get the idea.

Are you sure you want the new person in your game? You run pbp games where people roll physical dice and post what they got. New person doesn't want to play that game. Not that Invisible Castle or ENWorld's die rollers are hard to use, but I would not be surprised to see a conflict of expectations and play styles between her and the rest of the players.

I've played with her before, just not with this group. She rarely caused problems in previous groups I've been in with her, so I think she may just need to adjust to being the new player, unfamiliar with everyone and doing pbp for the first time.

If she does continue to cause problems I'll deal with it, but I don't think she will. Her personality and play style are the type that I think will mesh really well with the rest of the group, which is why I invited her in the first place (and also because we were short a player, but meh...).

I think it's a fair request for someone new to pbps to want the rolls out in the open like that. If you've only ever played at a table, then changing to a pbp where everyone rolls their own dice is like a table game where everyone rolls behind their own shield. That can be jarring.

While I've personally never needed to use an online die roller for the pbps I've run, I certainly understand why people use them.

I like Invisible Castle and more for ease of reference and to track how many die rolls people make I usually require they make an account, be logged in and always use the same exact name for their character.
