Undead Advancement for evil cleric?

First Post
I could have sworn i remembered that the Eberron campaign had a section that mentioned that undead characters could, at a certain level , perform a ritual to advance their characters, providing some bonuses.

I was considering creating an undead cleric for an evil campaign that was fairly loose on books, and was trying to figure out what would be a good race.

Best three I've heard of were Eleti, necropolitan and gravetouched ghouls.
If i can find the mythic races book somewhere, then i might be able to figure out what the eleti are all about, but I don't at the moment.

Necropolitans dont seem to have any additional major advantages towards them, but they have a net la of+0.

Gravetouched ghouls have a good stat bonuses for the +2 la and look freakin cool.

Edit: I have a friend who will loan my MC eventually.

So any help on where i can find the information on the advancement ritual for undead, any other good ritual advancements, and thoughts of undead character races, would be good.

You might be thinking of the Spellstitched template from Complete Arcane. It gives weak spell resistance, some okay damage reduction, and a bunch of spell-like abilities based on wisdom. It also costs a fair bit of experience.

You might also check out the Evolved Undead template from Libris Mortis. It seems a plausible effect for a clerical ritual, since it basically represents regular undead with more negative energy. It has a LA and gives some perks like fast healing and a (random) spell like ability that could be good or could be useless.

If you don't mind not starting out undead, the Undeath After Death spell from Faerun is pretty stylish. It costs you a little constitution, but when you die you come back as a shambling corpse-thing bent on revenge. When I played a character with it we ruled that, like the Necropolitan process, you lost a level when you died and came back. The Crypt Spawn template it applies is very similar to the Necropolitan template. As an extra bonus, when you come back you keep your death wounds.

Thanks a lot. I vaguely remembered that there was a picture of a ghoul covered in runes.

I made the choice to go with a gravetouched ghoul. I looked at the Eleti and would have gone with them for flavor's sake, but was too attracted by the great stats for the gg.

Considering Spellstiched isn't meant for undead characters and only cr +1, i might be able to get away without an LA, but will have to do a decent RP to explain how I managed to get a wizard to part with 14000 XP.

Evolved looks alright, but seems more for npcs rather than characters. Playing an older character is odd, but could work for a lich

Regardless, I found what I was looking for. Appreciate it

Though not exactly undead, the Ptolus setting has the (fairly powerful) Forsaken Shigmaa prestige class that is very death-oriented and iirc has a kind of come-back-from-the-dead ability(among alot of other powers). The unique thing about it is you have to die and be raised to gain a level in the prc.

Anyway, just tossing it out there.
