Undead Issues

First Post
Im playing 3.5 and starting a campioan with a level 12 True Necro
well one of my questions is that the Spell Animate Undead states that I can control 4 HD worth of undead each level which means at level 12 I would be able to control 48 HD of undead, well this seems reasonable if i was trying to conrtol alot of undead that only had 4 HD each. But thinking of what if I wanted to control one really strong undead like making a Tarrasque( I know making a undead Tarrasque is probably quite improbable but thats just a monster I could find with 48 HD) Well looking at this monster seems really strong for a level 12 character to have under thier control.

If I'm misunderstanding something please enlighten me

Animate Dead only makes skeletons and zombies-- and they don't get most of the special abilities of the original creature. They have a lot of hitpoints, but not much else.

Also, I just noticed they have a max of 20 HD, which is only a CR of 7 or so. So a 48 HD zombie or skeleton isn't even possible :(

Ok thanks for the reply that really answers my question. but one more question, Is their a limit to creating Mummies through Create Undead which if i remember correct they retain much of their abilities

First, welcome to ENWorld!

Second, for additional fun, you might want to take a look at the necromancer-friendly book, Libris Mortis.

A metamagic feat in there, Fell Animate, lets you create undead simply by killing the living with your spells.

Feat - Fell Animate

Well, by standard rules, a mummy isn't a template, it's just... a mummy ;) So their abilities aren't related to the creature they're made from... and I don't believe any of the other undead made with spells "create undead" or "greater create undead" are templated like that, either.

Could you be thinking of lich or vampire? They keep pretty much all their special abilities after transforming. You might also be thinking of a mummy template from some other source; there are several such templates floating around, IIRC... but they probably wouldn't work with the "create" spells (unless DM approves, of course! :D)

Thanks for the Welcome and the tip about the meta magic feat which seem very viable.
But I also was wondering if their is any limit to the HD to mummies like zombies and Skeletons.
Since I am going into being True Necromancer I will have Rebuke Undead the rules on this are kinda confusing is their anywhere that clarify the rules on this?

Yes I was just assuming when I created an undead i would just apply the template to them. Actually the mummie template I found out is from the Libris Mortis Page 111.
So atm a necro can make undead creature through Animate undead and Create Undead these Undead are just the basic type of Skeletons. Zombies, Mummies and etc.

Well now I have another question, Is their a way to apply the Mummies template or any other undead template to a creature through means like a Creation feat?

By the rules, no. Such a creature is created when the DM says it is; there aren't any rules given. This is usually the case with monsters, particularly templates. If it was possible, I think it would be very difficult (think how hard it is to become a lich). Templates are powerful.
