Could be quite cool if done properly. But by making the connection incidental, it doesn't restrict any of the flavor in the class mechanics itself. Seems like a reasonable compromise. It would be quite simple for them to rework the text slightly to say something like "Psionics are possible for creatures whose minds have been awakened to the cosmic underpinnings that dictate the form and nature of reality.
