Unexpected Renaissance Music Find...

Scribble

First Post
SO I was looking through the Zune marketplace ( the Microsoft answer to iTunes...) and stumbled accross a Renaissance section in the classical genre...

I don't know why but this was just strangely unexpected.

I guess if you're looking for Greensleeves style music for your game this might be interesting? They only have two albums though.

Blackmore's Night: Secret Voyage
Blackmore's Night have a bunch of albums out; Secret Voyage being merely the most recent. Your Friendly Local Record Store should have a few of 'em.

(and if the name Blackmore sounds familiar, it is: yes, this *is* the same Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow fame...)

Another good source for this type of music is Cantaria. They have a very small selection of songs from 1600 and earlier, but a lot of the stuff that was made later has a Medieval feel to it. Many of their songs have full or partial MP3s available for download.

Another way to search for this type of music is under the term "early music". Here's an early music FAQ.

Yeah when I clicked on the group, they apparently have a bunch. A lot of them though just can't be listened to with the music pass, and you have to buy all the MP3s together as an album.
