Unhallowed Previews

Brakkart

First Post
The first preview of the forthcoming DDM set Unhallowed is now up on the WotC website, the link is here:

No pics of the minis as yet though, but some nice hints about what is going to be in the set including at least a couple more Yugoloths and a Large Black Dragon.

[EDIT] There is now a photo of the large Black Dragon mini and a silhouette of a figure which shall be revealed next Thursday. I guess this will be the last Black Dragon we'll see for a while, because with this one there will now be one of each size category for that critter.

The fact they're actually tossing in Incarnum stuff is interesting. I might actually (eventually) have a mini that suits my character without bashing something together.

I also cannot imagine needing much in the way of undead; although other beasties like animals, dires, fiends, and other monsters will always be welcomed.

I'd say, based on previous sets, that there will be 8-15 actual undead, with the rest being in theme as servants or foes of undead. The other 2/3 of the set is likely "not on theme". We were told more than one yugoloth, and also that there were some highly desired monsters from the blood war in here (which I guess means in addition to the Yugoloths).

They have increased the minis that are on theme, by using broader themes and doing "fringe" minis, which are on theme but still very versatile.

Let's look at Blood War:

Solar, Pit Fiend, Horned Devil, Ice Devil, Marilith, Chasme, Howler, Kolyarut, Lillend, Mezzoloth, Hellcat, Green Slaad, Succubus, Bralani Eladrin. That's 14 pedigree outsiders, all spot-on the Outsider Theme.

The Planar Theme has Githyanki Dragon Knight, Vlaakith the Lich Queen, Arcadian Hippogriff, Air Genasi Swashbuckler, Large Water Elemental, Demonic Gnoll Priestess, Harmonium Guard, Celestial Giant Stag Beetle, Doomguard, Free League Ranger, Mercykiller, Ethereal Marauder, Soldier of Bytopia, Hero of Valhalla (though you could argue about that one), Acheron Goblin, Fiendish Snake. Another 16(17) Figures that are somewhat on theme.

That's half the set!

Wardrums also had a lot of stuff that was spot on (well, War's quite a broad theme).

I guess Unhallowed will have a lot of unholy stuff:

- Undead (I guess they'll wrap up the MM undead here)
- Werewolves and similar stuff
- Some Evil Outsiders
- Evil Cultists/Necromancers/Heretics

That can easily make A quarter to a third of the set.

Then come Van Richten-style monster hunters, Clergy of Pelor, Lathander (/The Morninglord) and Kelemvor, Knights of the Chalice, all that stuff. Another dozen figures or so.

I don't need any more PC figs either ("undead hunters"), so it's looking like 1/2 the set will not be of value to me.

I really splurged on Blood War, so saving some money on this set doesn't make me unhappy. :)

This is exactly as I feel, although I am flexible to change if there are lots of really great critters to get in this set. ;)
