I wrote this PrC to be used for one of my own characters in an upcoming adventure. I was looking for an existing PrC that improved the ability to counter spells and I couldn't find one so I came up with this. The Unraveler In battle the spell caster’s role isn't always to inflict damage and wreak havoc. There are those whose sole purpose is to counter the attempts of the enemy. “Defense is sometimes the best offense.” Hit Dice: d6 BAB: As Wizard Saves: Poor Fort, Poor Ref, Good Will Spells: +1 caster at each level Level Ability 1 Enhanced Dispel (+2), Spell Penetration (bonus feat) 2 Reactive counterspell (bonus feat from MoF) 3 Mastery of Dispelling 4 Spell Counteract (1/day) 5 Enhanced Dispel (+4) 6 Greater Spell Penetration (bonus feat) 7 Spell Counteract (2/day) 8 Mastery of Dispelling 9 10 Enhanced Dispel (+6), Spell Counteract (3/day) Requirements To qualify for this prestige class a character must fulfill all of the following criteria: Feats: Skill Focus (Spellcraft), Improved Initiative, Improved Counterspell (from FRCS) Spells: Ability to cast Dispel Magic Skills: Spellcraft (8 ranks) Special: Must be a specialist in Abjuration or have the Protection Domain. Class Skills The class skills are: Concentration, Craft, Knowledge, Language, Profession, Scry, and Spellcraft. Skill Points at each level: 2 + Int modifier. Class Features Weapon and Armor Proficiency No proficiency in any weapon or armor is gained. Spells per Day When a new level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, hit points beyond those he receives from the prestige class, and so on), except for an increased effective level of spell casting. If a character had more than one spell casting class before, she must decide to which class she adds each level for purposes of determining spells per day. Note: The spell caster must add the levels to a spell casting class that can already cast Dispel Magic. Enhanced Dispel You may add the bonus listed in parenthesis to your Dispel Magic/Greater Dispelling level check. Mastery of Dispelling At 3rd level you may spontaneously convert a spell slot of the same level or higher than Dispel Magic into a Dispel Magic. At 8th level you may do the same for Greater Dispelling. Spell Counteract Once a day, when the character is subjected to a spell that adversely affects the caster, she immediately gains SR of 12+caster level. This can happen twice per day 7th level and 3 times per day at 10th. The SR remains for 1 round per class level.
